  1. A better question is why [math] 10^{-43}[/math]. Would it help to recognize that number is one unit of Planck time with our current observable universe to the volume of 1 Planck length. The temperature being equivalent to Planck temperature. The Planck units are in essence boundary conditions on which our ability to mathematically describe in essence breaks down into Infinities and nonsensical results. You often only hear the space and time axis in essence flipping roles for the GR descriptive but cosmology must also include both macro and quantum effects. So its good to understand how the limits of the macro and quantum theories apply. (String theory also recognizes these limits) One detail as mentioned in this thread is were describing our Observable portion in essence the limits of shared observable causality with our current universe. Time being a measure of rate of change or duration you in essence need a dimension in order to have something to measure or even something that must be able to change. However one must also realize that the t=0 represents the collective worldlines of all particles in our observable portion extrapolated from the closest we can mathematically describe and potentially measure. In the closest to pointlike we can describe. It does not represent any time outside our region of shared causality. In essence [math]10^{-43}[/math] is the origin of time for all potential worldlines in our observable universe that are extrapolated to the beginning of our observable universe (as the emitter event).

  2. Quinine is not chloroquine and it's a profound leap from efficacy of DMSO-solubilized active in culture (cell line of green monkey kidney cells) to effective human treatment by oral consumption of tonic water. Suggest folks read the actual work when it's av (as here) rather than relying on "news" reports. Here's the letter (it does lack some detail) and please remember - whatever the credentials of its 1st author Manli Wang, this is from China. We should await other labs reproducing this study and some level of efficacy in relevant or projected practical application https://www.nature.com/articles/s41422-020-0282-0.pdf

  3. But we (life) are an integral part of the planetary system and we (life) depend on that system; I'm not sure there's a qualitive difference between the two. The ecosystem that is me, may as well be a planet to the life that depends on me; even a virus, that is trying to kill me, needs me to live, or at least provide a suitable enviroment.

  4. You mean you keep thousands of people in close quarters and a virus spreads? Shocking!

  5. Okay. You're clearly very emotional about this topic. That sort of adds weight to my suggestion that the hysteria is an issue with this one. Thanks for the exchange. As I already said more than once, my heart aches for those affected. That doesn't mean it's an issue worthy of the anxiety we're seeing. This is my opinion. Feel free to disagree and hold a different opinion, preferably without making it unnecessarily personal or attacking me personally. Not helpful, mate. Again, seems a bit... hysterical.

  6. Don't ask a question if you are already settled on an answer. There is no such thing as perfect.

  7. from the Wiki entry on Prof Challenger "Challenger hoped through this experiment to prove that the Earth was a living organism that sustained its vitality from the ether of outer space" There is no aether . "Two out of three ain't bad" From the album Bat Out of Hell, released 1977, by the artist Meatloaf. There is lots of things I don't know, Dim, but useless trivia isn't one of them.

  8. Too simple. That rule means nobody can do anything (for fear that someone else objects). All rights granted to any individual or group constitute an infringement of the rights of others. Your right to walk down the street without fear of being killed infringes on my right to kill you. My right to have a barbecue infringes on your right to enjoy fresh air But your right to enjoy fresh air infringes on my right to enjoy a barbecue. In the end, it comes down to compromise. Is the right to protest more important than the right to easy holiday travel? Well: you only get to have a holiday because, in the past, people protested about not getting one.

  9. I presume that's travelling at "c" ? While the BB happened around 13.83 billion years ago, our observable universe is around 94 billion L/years in diameter, due to spacetime expansion over those years.

  10. If the universe is finite, then it is curved such that if you went off in a straight line you would eventually end up back where you started. Like flying round the world; you eventually get back to the place you left. And the very large time is because the universe is very nearly flat. So if it is curved, it is like a very large sphere that looks nearly flat (a bit like the Earth when you look around you) so it would take a long time to go all the way round.

  11. Thank you for all your feedback. I’m currently working on some mental health issues and cannot reply on give the answers the time that I would like to in regards to research and time and I struggle to express the concept fully and accurately, more to come but I have to work on my stability at this time kind regards David Wavish

  12. ! Moderator Note You were told in 2016 to stop bringing this up. It is clear you haven't changed in your inability to parse basic science and denial of reality in the face of actual evidence, so that mandate still stands.

  13. Indeed, or climate change... Or we could always relax and worry about what's for dinner... 🙄 It's being scared of the future that gets us up this 'shit creek' in the first place.

  14. The principles of good hygiene are well known: hand washing, particularly around food prep of touching your eyes, sneezing and coughing into tissues and disposing them properly, keeping clean surfaces. be careful when sharing drinks etc. The principles of a healthy immune system are also well known: diet, exercise, avoid excesses. What's the need for medicine? If you are immuno-compromised there are a number of options, but you're better off discussing those with a physician.

  15. if we had been following yr advice we wd all be drinking out of lead pipes. dont try and make me sound bigoted you are saying i am toxic. that's flaming from within the group aimed at escalation and termination of argument. ok. i got the information by default.

  16. this is exactly the kind of reasoning why the world is a polluted mess. 1. you tell me not to worry then give me false information 2. you make the false conclusion that because i'm not drinking pond water it's not harmful any toxins put into the environment when we can avoid it is bad. you need to develop an attitude of zero tolerance to pollution
