  1. Schrödinger would probably say "yes and no"

  2. No, that's the wrong way round. There is no reason that anyone would believe in gods unless they had an experience (being indoctrinated by their parents for example) that made them believe. If it can mean whatever the reader wants, then it doesn't really mean anything. The difference is that science is based on evidence and can be tested. While your bible is just a collection of stories made up by people a long time ago. I know which I would trust.

  3. And how do you feel about that? Whose fault is it? Progress is a positive proposition. It's doubtful you can achieve it with a predominantly negative outlook. Is there anything you can think of that makes you less bleak about your future? If you can't fix that, then it makes it look like you just enjoy whining online. Frustrating for those looking to help. Why don't you fire the current you, the one that complains all the time but won't lift a finger to change, and hire someone more effective? Nobody, including you, really cares much for that guy. He seems like he wants everything handed to him. Surely there's a version of you that cares enough about progress to actually work towards it?

  5. Tangentially again, Einstein came up with his own Steady State cosmology, probably just before he abandoned the idea of a cosmological constant. He didn't think the concept worthy of publication. From A new perspective on steady-state cosmology: from Einstein to Hoyle This is consistent with Einstein's 1952 statement

  6. I had a quick glance into the (German) original. Nobody explicitly references 'Jewish physics' or something, or even 'Jew'. Many of the contributions are really small, also e.g. Lasker's. This is all: (Pity enough I cannot copy the text as text from this site. Summary: the universe might not be be an absolute vacuum: in absolute vacuum the speed of light would be infinite.) Some are really bad, and seem to be only put in the book, because it is from a scientist, and believes Einstein is wrong. This is a fine example: In my translation: * This might be old German for 'index of refraction'. It might be interesting to read the whole stuff, but it is my impression of this quick glance that the main motivation is that people just can't believe that their intuitions, are wrong.

  7. A voltage regulator works by maintaining a set output voltage. This set voltage will be less than the nominal voltage available from the source, such as a battery. So you might have a 5 volt regulator being sourced by a 9 volt battery. A typical voltage regulator uses a voltage reference such as a Zener diode. A Zener diode has a specific break down voltage, which allows it to maintain a constant voltage drop regardless of the current flowing through it ( within limits). The regulator then compares this to its output. If the current load on the regulator increases and tries to draw down the output voltage, the regulator compensates by drawing more current from the battery. This of course draws down the voltage of the battery. This only becomes a problem if the battery voltage drops too close to the required regulated output voltage. As long as the battery is rated with a voltage greater than the regulated voltage by enough leeway, you would get a constant voltage output from the regulator for quite a while; right up to the point where the battery drops to the cutoff point. To maintain a constant wattage, the output voltage of the regulator would change to compensate. So for example, if you want to maintain a constant 1 mw of power, and the load is 25k ohm, the output voltage would be 5v, and a current draw of 0.2 ma. If the load changed to a resistance of 10 k ohm, the output voltage would need to drop to ~3.16 v as the current raises to ~3.16 ma. On the other hand, if these two resistors were connected directly to a 5v battery, you would still get the 1 mw power on the 25 k load, but with the 10k load, the power would jump to almost 2.5 mw. The regulator controls the output and draws on the battery to do so. The battery just needs needs to be large enough to meet these needs even after it's no longer operating at its fully rated voltage.

  8. I know we will be revived again to be accounted, but the unknown events afterlife make me worried. I just know I have to take good actions along with to afterlife so that God be happy at me. The worst thing that a human can take along with is bad believes and bad actions.

  9. I see. I can just imagine how many new members ISIS will recruit now that they've been given a sound thrashing by the international community. I guess they would have had less members if we'd been 'nice' to them and let them brutalize the whole region. Maybe if we'd been nice to A Hitler and let him have Poland, he wouldn't have tried to take all of Europe. And If we had let North Korea take the southern peninsula, Kim Jung Un would be a nice respectful head of state today. And why not. Let J Stalin have Eastern Europe. It's a small price to pay for good relations with the Russians. ( I know, a little 'over the top', but it illustrates my point ) No, some evil just has to be stamped out.

  11. It may seem like an odd concept, talk about things that folks (regardless of gender) are interested about? An engaging discussion is rarely about the talker. Also: "girls I like?". I think you misunderstand some aspects of fundamental human interactions here. A topic should be raised when the occasion arises and you can create a situation where folks you are communicating with engage and enjoy themselves. If you enjoy a topic, find folks that enjoy it. Independent of gender or whether you like them (the latter only realizes themselves later. I mean, how much can you like a person if you have not had really talked to them yet?). If you go in with the desire to present yourself in a kind of socially awkward courtship display using big, half-understood words... just don't.

  13. Today, couple hours ago, two young girls (20-25 y) visited me. They were from Jehovah's Witnesses. They gave me some bible ad. I took it. Took couple empty piece of papers and pen. And we sit on the floors. And asked them whether they "believe Universe was created by God?", obviously answered "Of course!". So, I asked "then why do not learn about Universe?", And started from pair production of electron-positron from high energy photon, wrote it on paper, wrote what is mass-energy of electron/positron, first I wrote 9.11*10^-31 kg, then I explained it's just round up, and exact value is 510998.928 eV/c^2 then I explained them what is proper speed of light (they didn't even knew 300,000 km/s), I explained them it's 299792458 m/s, then I started explaining conservation of charge in pair-production (e=1.602176565*10^-19 C). And how light turns to matter and anti-matter. And how to change from eV/MeV/GeV to Joules, and back. And from Joules to kg, and back. Then continued to annihilation of electron-positron, then to pair-production of proton-antiproton. Then to fusion of protons. Now girl surprised me,. She told me than Deuterium with charge +1e won't match with 2 proton also with charge +1e (I told her first that Deuterium is proton and neutron bound together). So she was actually learning/listening for real. I obviously congratulated her for it, and explained that from fusion of 2 protons, there is produced also positron and neutrino and 0.42 MeV energy. Then to how to create free neutrons.. Then to neutron capture, and radioactive decay... I asked them to gave their smartphone, and went to YouTube to show Cloud Chamber videos of radioactive isotopes and explained the basic cosmic rays-atmosphere reactions, producing secondary rays, explained pion meson production, and muons, and showing them on videos how they look like/behave.. That was probably the longest talk with girl I had in the last 10 years I will skip further details.. At the end, they knew how nuclear weapon and nuclear reactors (Uranium-235) do work.. She said something like "you made me feel like really stupid...", "That was not my intention... Did you learn how Universe is working today?" "Yes..."
