  1. In order to be helpful, I checked carefully the right and proper definitions and usage of these words from impeccable sources, rather than Wikipedia or youtube. Now we are all agree that teleology is connected with the purpose of a process or action in some way. However it is pretty clear from the OED that there is no purpose whatsoever involved with teleonomy. Which I why noted your original post and later statements to be self contradictory. To be helpful I have included the definition of apparent and deduce that since there is no purpose associated with teleonomy, the use of definition (1) cannot be the definition meant in the more wooly Wikipedia statement. That leaves us with definition (2), which says, as everyone else seems to have understood, that there may be a semblance of purpose but it is illusory. Yet you have stated several times there to be an associated purpose. A final note. I see that teleonomy is restricted to living systems. So examples involving non living systems are void, which is a pity because I can think of many good ones.

  5. Representing the cat as having two possible states is indeed absurd. It consists of a lot of particles and its state space is huge (with many, many different quantum numbers). However, roughly half of this state space will represent a dead cat, and roughly half represents a living cat. Of course, in a real experiment, the box is not completely isolated, so the particles comprising the experimenter and his equipment (and the rest of the Earth) will be entangled with the inside op the box long before it is opened. When discussing entangled particles, the focus is usually on two particles, because the entangled mess of larger systems is simply too complex. As far as I know, there is no way of knowing whether the cat can be simultaneously dead or alive, but if it is, it is on different states of our entire planet.

  6. idk if my answer is right, could someone please be kind enough to tell me if its right? the question is A 0.1 KG TOY CONTAINS A COMPRESSED SPRING. WHEN THE SPRING IS RELEASES, THE TOY FLIES 0.45M UPWARDS FROM GROUND LEVEL, BEFORE FALLING BACK DOWN TO THE GROUND. ASSUMING THERE IS NO AIR RESISITANCE, CALCULATE THE SPEED OF THE TOY WHEN IT HITS THE GROUND. GRAVATIONAL FIELD STRENGH IS 9.8 N/KG. here's my working out... 1) i figured out the gravational potential energy = to the kinetic energy in this question 2)gravational potential energy formula is = mgh so i did o.1 times 0.45 times 9.8 which gave me the answer 0.44j 3) i now figured i need to work out the speed of the toy meaning i need to re- arrange the kinetic energy equation 4) kinetic enrgy equation is 0.5 times m times v squared. i re - arranged so speed equals EK DIVIDED by m times 0.5. 5) to work this out i did 0.44 divided by 0.4 times 0.1 which gave me 0.088 m/s. thats the answer i got, is it right??

  7. Exactly +1 My question back along was designed to illustrate this. Consider two bunches of particles, identical as far as our quantum theory can specify. One runs around and catches mice The other lies in a soggy smelly heap. What is the (quantum) difference between these two. ie what quantum number is different?

  8. Entangling a phonon state of a crystal is not the same thing as is being discussed here. Pop-sci articles play it a little fast and loose with the concept there. Objects are not entangled, states are. They buried the lede in the article, not mentioning that it's a phonon state that is entangled until the fifth paragraph. When you talk about entanglement, you always need to specify what state(s) is(are) entangled. The purported state that is in a superposition in the Schrödinger's cat scenario is being alive and dead, which are not quantum states. It's part of the absurdity.

  9. Studiot is now the fourth or fifth person here to point out that you misread it. That should make you think. I did. I carefully studied your sources, read the paper and watched the video. The conclusion is that you misinterpreted all of them in a way that reminds of New agers who use quotes from scientists to prove telepathy or homeopathy.

  11. If the second part of your answer was a reason/justification for the first part (lashing out), what would you call lashing out without thinking? The second part arises because 1) You failed to correctly read the definition of a teleonomy argument. I have highlighted the all important word. You have, in your OP, singularly failed to demonstrate that there is any purposefulness at all, it is all assumed. So arguments about what sort of purposefulness are moot. You should, of course, also provide a working definition of purpose to measure discussion against.

  12. What do you mean by this? Are you confusing superposition and coherence? For the purpose of a statistics tossing experiment an ideal coin can be modelled as a Gaussian (orientable) surface with two sides. But not all surfaces are Gaussian.

  13. ! Moderator Note We're done with this. If you've read 8 pages of people telling you why science doesn't equal religion and can still make this statement, it's clear you aren't listening, you're just preaching. If you mention this in a mainstream science section, it will be off-topic and you will be suspended. Thread closed.

  14. No. Wave and particle are not quantum states, thus there is no superposition possible. No, it isn't.

  15. College is where you go for undergraduate studies in a certain concentration of a subject (examples of studies that you would major in, in a college are: anthropology, biology, chemistry, math, physics, english, linguistics...just google any college/university and search through “undergraduate programs”). Graduate programs are an even more specific course of studies that you undergo after completing a bachelors degree at a college/university. MCAT is an exam taken for medical schools. GRE is an exam taken for graduate schools. Are you looking to find a way into medical school or graduate school?

  17. Shows, I feel that Herman Minkowski was still coming to terms with the new reality. So am I still. The maths and the model are fine (though we still don't know how things play out in extreme situations) but an intuitional grasp may still elude us ,although those completely familiar with the model may feel differently. If there are those 100% comfortable with the space time relationship then they should perhaps also be able to present this in an easily digestible form to the layman (without him or her needing to wade through the physics and maths necessarily). But I think those at the forefront of this physics disagree for now and for example as to whether spacetime is a single static block or not. (I may have garbled that)

  18. Bingo! "The views of space and time which I wish to lay before you have sprung from the soil of experimental physics, and therein lies their strength. They are radical. Henceforth space by itself, and time by itself, are doomed to fade away into mere shadows, and only a kind of union of the two will preserve an independent reality." Hermann Minkowski

  21. Are you mentally disabled ? or you do not have the intelligence to interpret what you read ? If so, this debate has already been unfulfilled, I guess I have to learn sign language for communicating with you There are some people who have the capacity to understand me, maybe I explain for them. The latest article said that they are also see the colors as we can but they have not any special description for it.(i.e. blue hues very little in the nature,so they do not face to face this color, because of this reason they have not any special name for this color.) I were also tried to explain we see the colors same, but interpret differently, (as we do everything) but you need to do more than tearing the peel from banana for understanding.

  22. Apparent purpose does not mean that. Ironically, the subsequent sentence means that teleonomy constrasts teleology, where purposeful goal directness is concerned with the divine/human intention. This doesn't mean teleonomy constrasts purpose, it means it contrasts purpose when concerned with teleology! And yet you accuse me of mangling English? Ridiculous! Bender unavoidably mentions that actual purpose is constrained to religion. (i.e. teleonomy doesn't exist!) Quote from Bender: "This is getting repetetive and boring. Please stop misquoting respected scientists. Archeo-purpose is not real purpose, much like teleonomy, which is specifically invented to be able to use purpose-oriented language in the absence of purpose. If you want actual purpose, it is teleology you are looking for." That you are unable to understand basic sentence structure, does not suddenly warrant that I am "unable to understand English" ! That is demonstrably false. Well, it's "correct" if you misread as Strange did. See my underlining of Strange's misunderstanding above.

  23. Teleonomy does in fact concern purpose in the realm of science rather than religion. Wikipedia/teleonomy: "Teleonomy is sometimes contrasted with teleology, where the latter is understood as a purposeful goal-directedness brought about through human or divine intention." You persistently misread the sentence above; for that teleonomy contrasts purposeful goal directness, as typically expressed in the realm of teleology wrt divine/human intention, does not mean that teleonomy contrasts purpose/goal directness overall! Why do you think the description opens with: "Teleonomy is the quality of apparent purposefulness and of goal-directedness of structures .."? Clearly, teleonomy contrasts not merely purpose and goal-directness, but instead, it contrasts purpose and goal-driectness when it comes to typically unevidenced nonsense, such as teleology wrt divine/human intention. You have a ridiculous command of English, and so do your comrades here!

  24. Unfortunately I have been unable to find the material I needed to cite in regards to the experiment which took place decades ago with two gigantic metal plates. Fortunately I have found these ubiquitous tiny little metal plates instead. These bits of metal are used by metal heads ( they're geeks after all) or machinists. These bits of metal are used to calibrate micrometers and such and are called gage blocks. When rubbed together under pressure they stick together. When a perfectly flat gage block is placed on a perfectly flat table the block will float around on the table. The Vander Waal force explains the sticksion part of the problem but falls far short of explaining the floating effect. The only thing that explains both is the theory all matter is contained in a field of Higgs bosons. These bosons are on the table top and act like ball bearings rolling around under the block. When two blocks are pushed together the bosons are forced halfway into the empty spaces in between the atoms in the blocks. Rubbing them together decreases the pushing force necessary to connect the blocks. When matter is compressed it's pressurized. The pressure in matter equals the pressure which compressed it. This pressure causes friction as the Higgs bosons push on the atoms around the empty spaces in the blocks. Space is a vacuum and cannot be manipulated. Only the Higgs field can be manipulated because it is something. It is matter. Space is simply the volume of the universe which is static and unchanging. Matter oscillates not space and not the universe.

  25. Interesting point. My sense is that, if it is possible to calculate in such high dimensions with mathematics, than it is just showing the potential of mathematics and by that at least it should be able to express the recognisable physical reality. Clearly for the masses including me... I wanna see reality and I would like to count with it. I see that our sciences dealing with as much information (reality) as they are able to perceive. Including medical sciences. I think Science is on a good path. Thank you for the possibility to communicate my problems and recognitions. It helped at least me. Thank you for your thoughts. Sciences are! and should be united and rigoursly follow nature based evidences... 1/0= It has an answer. Science will have the answer. I can just believe this. I have faith and trust in Science. Science can be my Religion.
