  1. omg ! this is quite dangerous ..... they are selling any chemical you want ..... plus its available even here in India. Mercury costs $200 a Kg (converted from local currency) here....
  2. I return to the forum after several months away .... good to be back ! I needed some help and didn't know exctly where to post it so decided to do it right here ! Anyone got any nice idea for research topics in the field of digital systems or computer science or electronics ? Any help would be appreciated.....going through a sort of mental block currently

    neutrons

It is more of an equilibrium I believe than simple holding together with all sorts of quarks exchanging hands.
  4. Density will give you amount of compound present plus water in 1 cc. From temperature you can know density of water, subtracting this you will know amt of compount per unit volume. Multiply by appropriate factor (molecular weight) to get an estimate of molarity.
  5. I recently installed Suse Pro 9.2 on my laptop; it was a breeze and though I find Mandrake and Fedora equally easily to install and configure, I think if had to choose amongst the 3, I would choose Suse. Easy to configure -- Yast is awesome
  6. I tried to configure the netrwork but weird things were happeneing. I could ping my desktop from my laptop but couldn't ping my laptop from my desktop. I tried all sorts of diferent IP addresses and tried to set teh gateway on either of the two but the same thing kept happeneing again and again.
  7. Its about the internal allignment of magnetic dipoles. The 3 mentioned allign in the same direction giving strong fields. You also have paramagnetics and diamagnetics
  8. Yeah, the ball should just drop down in the reference frame of the ground
  9. No there is no chemical reaction involved. The hardness is achieved due to the structure and packing of Fe itslef. I do not think you can make generic statements about carbon hardening metals though, as metals would have different types of structures and varied atomic sizes.
  10. Need help connecting my laptop to my desktop via a crosswire. I tried hard but didn't succeed............ Any tips on how to do it ?
  11. Having studied Lagrangian mechnics somewhat by now, I must say I didn't understand the mathematical derivations used, but the methods of applications were mostly very mechanical and the differential equations obtained in the end did not seem humanly solvable.
  12. Pseudo random number generation is one way to do it. There are alternate methods to get random numbers direct out of harware or "true random numbers". I know this since java has 2 different random number geerators, one of which uses pseudo random number generation, asking for seeds etc whereas the other supposedly ives the true random numbers. Any ideas how they do it in hardware ?

    Meters

The metre was defined before speed of light was measured. It wouldn't be re-defined only so that speed of light becomes exactly equalt to 300 00 00 00 m/s. Only the defination of the metre was changed, prior to this definition it was defined with respect to a standard Platinum-Iridium rod kept at 273 K somewhere in France. The new definition ensures verifiability world-wide and is in some sense more general.
  14. Ideally when you want to test and compare 2 architectures you'd want to use the same set of benchmarks and the same OS so that its a fair comparison. It is always possible to build architectures which run particular programs faster.
