i have been suffering from oversleeping

i think, the cause for this problem is my food, i used to have rice thrice a day daily but without salt but with curd and curry.

So, if anyone can understand the problem, that i have been suffering from many years in my college, its really affecting my studies, i stay at hostel, i want to seek help regarding this issue, wanna help me?

If it's about food, why do you think this is a psychological problem? Have you seen a doctor about this? You mention what you used to eat but not what you eat now. Why do you think it's the food, and not the stress of college studies, or the hostel environment?

 

Any diagnosis over the web would be guesswork at best. A doctor examining you physically is able to use accurate data from hundreds of small observations and a few tests to remove as much speculation as possible. This is your health, and accuracy is an investment you'll never regret.

 

So, you can try a bunch of different things and hope they don't make your condition worse, or you can save a LOT of time and get a diagnosis instead of a guess.

Rice is just carbs, so there may not be a direct link with being a central depressant that causes hypersomnolence. Maybe it's the spices in the curry? Oversleeping from a neurochemical standpoint may be to do with stimulating GABAergic or glycine channels, or inhibiting histamine, cholinergic, and adrenergic receptors. So if you do think it's the food, it may be worthwhile analysing the ingredients and seeing if there isn't any substances that could be psychotropic.

I may be wrong, but the OP seems to suggest that rice with curd and curry but no salt was the old diet ("I used to have rice..."). There is no mention of what the OP is eating now.

If you are in front of a computer, Ipad-type or phone alot at night it might be the light from them is too blue. Blue light is a signal to the brain that it is daylight,and hence, keeps you more awake at the wrong time. Evening light is more yellow/orange and a LOT easier on the eyes at night as well as a signal to wind down.. The light from your device(s) may be messing up your day/night body-rythmn, extending your 'day' too much.

 

You might want to try software for your device that adjusts the blue/red balance in the evening in your area. I use F-Lux, but there are others. I am only a data point of one but it sorted out my insomnia which lead to oversleeping in the morning. You can adjust the balance to suit and input your location in F-Lux. It's free. I think some phone manufacturers are starting to provide a similar facility in their latest phones.

Join the club mate. I constantly oversleep and then I am tired if I have to get up early. It was horrible when I was on work placement they used to give out to me for falling asleep. Thing is I tend to only sleep about 8 hours but I won't get to sleep until like 4 in the morning it is so frustrating that I can't seem to get up in the morning. Starting to wish I could get a job working nights. They would give out saying I was drinking the night before but I don't drink. Then they said I have a problem with coffee so I gave it up. Then they said maybe I was diabetic etc but I am perfectly healthy.
