It is a network created from a number of devices which each device acting as it's own router. Let's say I have a big truck (A) which gets internet access through a satellite on the roof. Then I have a caravan(B) which follows behind the truck (A). It still can connect to the internet from (A). Now say that a car followed behind the caravan(B) the car may be out of range of the wifi of truck(A) however it can connect to the wifi of caravan(B) and in that manner get internet access.
