cfu- bacterias or colonies number?

Recommended Posts

Hello!
We analyse urine and we cout cfu number.

Is that what we count number of bacteries (particular bacteries) or clums of bacteries (colonies)?

So, if these are colonies,, then itis significant, when we have more then 100 000 COLONIES i 1 ml, and that is MORE then just 100 000 bacteries, isn't it?

MANY THANKS FOR HELP!!!

CFU means Colony Forming Units.

This assumes that every colony on your petri dish was originally just one cell, prior to incubation.

If you have 10,000 colonies formed after incubation on your dish, you can assume that there are 10,000 cells per mL of your urine sample.
