You may have seen various acronyms used on the forums and wondered what they stood for. This non-exhaustive list is to clarify their meanings:

ATM - at the moment (also "atinymonkey" on this site in particular)

Please feel free to add relevant acronyms or query the meaning of any I have missed off.
The Dictionary is not a technical resource.

Let's go with mine so younger member's parents continue to view us as an educational resource.

And for you parents of teenagers who are reading this, we want you to know that certain vulgar words like ****, ****, ***** and **** will automatically be blanked out, replaced by asterisks in the actual post. You can't protect your children from all of the internet's vulgarity, but you can rest assured they won't get that **** here.

Genius
FTL = faster than light

Units:
c = speed of light
m = mass
n = newtons (measure of weight)
kg = kilogram (measure of mass)
Δ = delta, change in
e.g it is 10C outside and warms up to 25C, Δtemperature or change in temperature is 15C
G = giga, thousand million
M = mega, 1,000,000,000
m = milli, thousandth
µ = micro, millionth
n = nano, 0.000 000 001
p = pico, 0.000 000 000 001
M, n, p, depends on if you are going by long (billion means a million millions) or short (billion means only a thousand millions) scale.

Can I remind all users that this thread is for common acronyms, which one is likely to come across on these forums and which may affect the meaning of posts. It is meant to be a resource.

It's not for any old junk like "IAGTRNSL - I am going to Raymond's Now, Speak Later".
The Dictionary is not a technical resource.

According to wp, it's not an accronym, it's a code-word.

according to here, it was randomly chosen as a code-word by a computer.

not that it's a common accronym :-p
In 2005, 35% of those who voted, voted Labour. This is only of 22% those allowed to vote, and just 15.5% of the population; yet Labour have 55% of the power, giving them total control.
