I am not organising this and not related to it in any way, except that it is my field of study, but thought I'd share it for whoever is interetsted:

Genomics Workshop II:
Following the previous marine mammal genomics workshop held at the Biennial
Conference in New Zealand in 2013, the field of genomics has continued to
progress rapidly, experiencing relevant advances in sequencing
technologies, laboratory techniques and data analysis methods. At the time
of the previous biennial conference, genomic studies on marine mammals were
hampered by a lack of suitable reference genomes, with only the high
quality genomes of distant terrestrial relatives such as the dog, cow and
elephant available for anchoring generated genomic data. However, by the
time of the San Francisco conference, the number of high quality genome
assemblies of marine mammal species is expected to be in double figures,
facilitating the progression of our field, which is also benefiting from
new innovative methods being applied to marine mammal species and more data
being made publicly available. As a result, the number of published inter-
and intra-specific genomics investigations on marine mammal species is
expected to significantly increase during 2015. This workshop offers the
opportunity for participants to keep track of this progression from
genetics to genomics; to present their latest results and findings; and
perhaps most importantly to share their experiences on the successes and
pitfalls of different genomic techniques that can hopefully benefit us as a
community by preventing needless and expensive replication and promoting
better, more cost-effective use of resources. (for more info: https://www.marinemammalscience.org/conference/conference-registration/.)

There is also this, for which registration is free and I thought sounded very interesting (but it's in Europe):

CFP: The External Dimension as a driver for change’ An international conference hosted by the Long Distance Advisory Council (LDAC), focusing on sustainability and regional cooperation 16-17 September 2015 | Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

“As fishers, it is in all of our interests to see the sea managed sustainably by our counterparts overseas. The European industry is happy to have the chance to talk about positive changes in long-distance fisheries which we can contribute to and which help provide our livelihoods”

Michel Goujon, Orthongel (the Organisation of Producers of Frozen Tropical Tuna).

The Long Distance Advisory Council (LDAC) will lead the debate on how the EU Cmmon Fisheries Policy’s focus on international fisheries can benefit global governance, transparency in African fisheries and social, economic and environmental sustainability, during this high-level, two-day event.

Science Summit: Strategy for Excellence will support universities and research institutions in their strategies to achieve excellence in research and to deliver economic growth on an institutional, local and international level.

Excellence.

Agility.

Collaboration.

Place.

Openness.

These are the core themes set out in the Government’s ‘Our Plan for Growth: Science and Innovation’ paper, which sets out £5.9bn of capital to support scientific excellence. The review stresses the importance of research achieving excellence and the need to operate at a quickening pace and show agility to seize new opportunities. The importance of place is also recognised with continued investment in elite technology and innovation centres. The modern demand for openness and engagement is also key with HEFCE considering how to reward open data as part of the future REF assessments. The need to foster higher levels of collaboration between disciplines, sectors, institutions, people and countries is fundamental to boosting competiveness and productivity. The Dowling Review of Business-University Research Collaborations details further recommendations to support relationships between UK businesses and university researchers by reducing complexity. The UK has historically invested less in research and development than competitor nations so capitalising on its cutting edge research base is critical to our future prosperity and meeting societal challenges.

This conference will explore how to keep the UK’s research base at the cutting edge of world science outlining how to nurture scientific talent, support research excellence, forge strategic partnerships and catalyse innovation.

SCOPE & TOPICS

One of the ever hot issues in many organization systems is how to transform large amounts of daily collected operational data into the useful knowledge from the perspective of declared company goals and expected business values. The main concern of this invited session is a Business Intelligence (BI) paradigm, as a set of theories, methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information and knowledge. Various interdisciplinary oriented BI approaches may provide organizations the ability to use their data to improve quality of business, increase financial efficiency and operational effectiveness, conduct innovative research and satisfy regulatory requirements. Applications of appropriate BI implementation methodologies together with outcomes related to collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches are inevitable when applying BI approaches to large and complex organization systems. For many years, such interdisciplinary approaches were used in analyzing big data gathered from not only business sectors, but also public, non-profit, and government sectors.

The main goal of the session is to attract researchers from all over the world who will present their contributions, interdisciplinary approaches or case studies in the area of BI. The focus may be set to various BI and Data Science aspects, such as: data warehousing, reporting, online analytical processing, data analytics, data mining, process mining, text mining, predictive analytics and prescriptive analytics, as well as various aspects of big data analysis and time series analysis. We express an interest in gathering scientists and practitioners interested in applying BI approaches in public and government sectors, such as healthcare, education, or security services. However, experts from all sectors are welcomed.

Hi guys,

We realised a while ago that there isn't a general list anywhere of all the scientists (who want to be listed, that is!) and what they're working on. From undergrads to qualified scientists.
So we made one! It's going to be really cool and useful for many different reasons, including simple collaboration.

Our website (searsci.com) is now online, so if you're interested feel free to take a look.

Oh, and Happy Monday!

Thanks,

The SEARSCI Team :)
