Hi there,
Colloidal silver is used a disinfectant but I want to know that whether this Colloidal Silver has any kind of side effects or anything like that. While searching for my answer on the Google I found that there is a reported death oh a patient due to ingestion of Colloidal Silver. So my point is what are its side effects, if anybody know about this then please help me out.

thanks
Jason Scott

Well this is from wikipedia,

Since the 1990s, "colloidal silver", a liquid suspension of microscopic silver particles, has been marketed as an alternative medicine, often claiming impressive "cure-all" qualities. The effectiveness of these products has never been scientifically proven, and in some jurisdictions it is therefore currently illegal to include such claims in product advertisements.[15] Medical authorities and publications advise against the ingestion of colloidal silver preparations, because of their lack of proven effectiveness and because of the risk of adverse side effects, such as argyria.[16][2][17][18] Historically, colloidal silver was also used as an internal medication to treat a variety of diseases. Their use was largely discontinued in the 1940s, due to the development of safe and effective modern antibiotics and concern about adverse side effects.[18][19]

Silver is used on clothes to kill off bacteria.
smelly-sock-treatment-leaks-silver-nanoparticles.html

Not sure you'd want to eat it though. Though if your body does not absorb it I guess you could survive and even use it to kill bacteria. However it can also poison you. Silver accumulation in the body is called argyria, and can result from chronic exposure to silver:

Higher doses can kill.

Bottom line: we have medicine that can kill bacteria and won't poison you and instead is excreted from the body. We're not in the dark ages any more, no need for this sort of crude medicine.

Our voting system is broken! It nearly guarantees that we will have only two political parties that have any chance of winning, and that they will be very similar.

The silver in fabrics and other antimicrobial surfaces tend to be in the nanonsize range. There is potential for absorbing through the skin and through inhalation. Their impact on human health is still under investigations

There is the dude I saw on Oprah who drinks colloidal silver regularly, he is healthy and claims it keeps him from getting sick... being blue as a smurf doesn't seem to bother him...

There are no known adverse side effects associated with "Colloidal Silver" or "Ionic Silver".

The vast majority of products marketed are not Colloidal Silver, they are Ionic Silver. Currently most people search for Colloidal Silver rather than Ionic Silver, which is the most common reason for the mislabel. Some manufactures insist that their product is in fact Colloidal Silver when it is not technically, for I assume the same reason.

Though there seems to be little difference in efficacy, the difference is that Colloidal Silver is approx. 80% silver particles and 20 % ionic and Ionic
Silver is approx. 20% silver particles and 80 % ionic.

The products made at home electrically are Ionic Silver. This is usually where the problems start as the maker either did not read or execute the instructions properly or the instructions were faulty.

At one time, it was commonly advised to add sea salt to the preparation to speed up the process by increasing the conductivity of the "distilled" water.

This, of course, produced a silver solution that was silver chloride and not the expected Colloidal Silver. When these nut cases reported that they got Argyria from using Colloidal Silver, they thought that was what they were taking. Actually, they used tap water and/or salt in the process (silver chloride) and on top of that, they used it excessively. Casual usage of silver products causing Argyria are extremely rare.

Other studies that report adverse reactions site "silver" and/or "silver compounds" of which Colloidal Silver falls into by default. Studies do not specifically site Colloidal Silver.

Based on the silver content of either Colloidal Silver
(80% at 5 - 20ppm) and Ionic Silver (20% at 5 - 20ppm) and the EPA Reference Dosage sited below, your bladder would undoubtedly burst long before you received enough "silver" to have any adverse effects.

Now, set all this aside for a moment and consider how many people are killed in vehicle and plane crashes. And yet you still drive or ride in these vehicles and planes without hesitation.

Now, we're talking DEAD! And due to misdirected reports, people are afraid to take Colloidal Silver and Ionic Silver on the obscure chance they might make history and turn a little gray (not blue, that is just pure BS, most of the pictures shown of
Paul Karason have been doctored to look more "blue" than very gray, though it IS an EXTREME case), in the course of curing an ailment that perhaps the meds didn't work. Paul Karason used tap water rather than distilled as required and salt in his process (silver chloride).

Another point is that bacteria, etc. cannot develop a resistance to Colloidal or Ionic Silver like it can with conventional medications that are well known to cause side effects such as suicide, cardiac failure, death for various reasons, head aches severe
diarrhea and vomiting, yet you still take them without question. Do you see anything amiss here?

I personally have been taking Ionic for over 10 years and have never experienced ANY adverse effects. I have cured abscesses in a couple of days, I have cured our dog's ear infections (when the prescribed meds did not work), I had a friend that was told by their vet to either put their dog down or go home and make it comfortable as it had parvo. The dog went home and started Ionic Silver treatment and on the next visit to vet was declared healthy. There are many accounts over the years I have experienced. The final decision for someone to use either Colloidal Silver or Ionic Silver rests with them, I can only tell you what I know to be fact based on my personal experiences.

Oh yea, I am NOT blue or even a little gray.

Read info on deaths

Abstract:

Safety Information Related to Nanoscalar-Oligodynamic Silver Ions A Nutraceutical Silver Supplement

Read EPA Reference Dosage

Abstract:

Silver; CASRN 7440-22-4

_I.A. Reference Dose for Chronic Oral Exposure (RfD)
Substance Name — Silver
CASRN — 7440-22-4
Last Revised — 12/01/1996

The oral Reference Dose (RfD) is based on the assumption that thresholds exist for certain toxic effects such as cellular necrosis. It is expressed in units of mg/kg-day. In general, the RfD is an estimate (with uncertainty spanning perhaps an order of magnitude) of a daily exposure to the human population (including sensitive subgroups) that is likely to be without an appreciable risk of deleterious effects during a lifetime. Please refer to the Background Document for an elaboration of these concepts. RfDs can also be derived for the noncarcinogenic health effects of substances that are also carcinogens. Therefore, it is essential to refer to other sources of information concerning the carcinogenicity of this substance. If the U.S. EPA has evaluated this substance for potential human carcinogenicity, a summary of that evaluation will be contained in Section II of this file.

__I.A.1. Oral RfD Summary

[Table] See in table: Argyria NOEL: None

* Conversion Factors: Based on conversion from the total i.v. dose to a total oral dose of 25 g (i.v. dose of 1 g divided by 0.04, assumed oral retention factor; see Furchner et al., 1968 in Additional Comments section) and dividing by 70 kg (adult body weight) and 25,500 days (a lifetime, or 70 years).

There doesn't seem to be any good effects either....

Since the 1990s, "colloidal silver" has been marketed as an alternative medicine product, with unsubstantiated, and in some jurisdictions illegal, claims of effectiveness. Medical authorities advise against the use of such colloidal silver preparations, as does the published medical literature, because of their lack of proven effectiveness and the risk of side effects.[24][25]

Colloidal silver preparations primarily deliver inactive metallic silver, rather than the active microbicidal silver ion.[6] There is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of colloidal silver in vivo. Some in vitro studies demonstrate an anti-bacterial effect of colloidal silver,[26] although one study in 2004 of a colloidal silver solution marketed on the Internet showed no such antimicrobial activity.[27]
