Use \frac{5}{\sqrt{25}} - the first argument of \frac lets you specify the numerator, the second will give you the denominator.

What do you mean by abreviations. LaTeX doesn't use any abreviations in Greek letters. is just \alpha, is just \beta, is \gamma, and the capital letters are is A, is B, and is \Gamma. No abreviations.

lambda, not lamda. all greek letters are given by slash(full name), capitalized for capital letters.

there is also varphi and varrho if you like that kind of thing
