Symbols of Science

I was just thinking, what other scientific fields have official symbols associated with them?

Medicine has the Rod of Asclepius, Psychology uses the Greek uppercase letter Psi [math]\Psi[/math]

Do any others have symbols corresponding with them?

Some of those scientific topics are relatively new in name. For example, Astronomy wasn't really refered to as such until relatively more modern times than the greeks -- they refered to it as either Astrology or part of general science.

So the symbols of Astronomy (and I am gritting my teeth saying that) are, I guess, Astrological symbols -- the zodiac.

A classic, surely? Though most chemicals I've worked with haven't been half as pretty. Alternatively, the Bunsen burner, or distillation apparatus. The latter is a must in any Hollywood chem lab, usually without any kind of sheath on the condenser, and surrounded by conical flasks inexplicably filled with dry ice or food dye.

mooeypoo - I prefer Dr. Manhattan's take on the atomic symbol. :)
