Logic, Reasoning Question #3

Prof. Man and wife are browsing a large mulit level dept store that had just opened. Wife stops for a few minutes to examine a display of summer froks, and then realizes her husband had gone on without her. she was about to wander aimlessly in search of him, when she recalled one of his lectures which she had heard the end of, after coming to campus to pick him up. He had demonstrated that if two people are trying to find one another in a large space with very limited sightlines, they find one another much sooner on the average if one stands still, rather than if each wanders in search of the other. Wife therefore decides to stay among the dresses until her backtrackign husband locates her. However, in spite of the fact that her recollection of her hubby's lecture is accurate, and the point he made regarding the efficiency of search procedures is correct, her strategy did not work at all! WHY NOT?

I have one possible answer.... but wanted to bounce some more ideas.

The hubby adopted the same strategy.

Anymore thoughts.
