akcapr
H2SO4 + 2NH4NO3--> 2HNO3+ (NH4)2SO4 .... i think
budullewraagh
a better way: in dilute sulfuric acid: H2SO4+NH4NO3-->NH4HSO4+HNO3 in concentrated sulfuric acid: H2SO4+NH4NO3-->NH4HSO4+N2O5 in the latter, the gas evolved is very, very dangerous
akcapr
its interesting how concentration of the acid effects the outcome, i rememebr on this forum someone explaining this, but how does the conc. of the acid effect wether the product is bisulfate or sulfate? H2SO4
Well there would be more "sulfatei ion" around to make a bisulfate, why when theres not enough there is only the "sulfate". Youd think it would be mixed though.
budullewraagh
the second hydronium cation of sulfuric acid doesn't dissociate completely, or nearly so. thus, a 2:1 ratio would increase yields
