Logger need to make money or they will destroy the wood ?

Demand creates supply. There is a demand for wood and this demand creates loggers' jobs and allows them to feed their families. You can reduce the demand by, for example, introducing an alternative "artificial wood" that will be similar in properties to the natural, but will not require large-scale deforestation.

Loggers are not 'getting away with it' - for the most part they are not doing something illegal and they don't have evil entention to destroy the planet, but you can't solve the issue by just cutting off the supply. As long as the demand exists, deforestation will still be going.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make. Yes, there is, currently a need for wood (and wood pulp to make paper).

Yes, that causes "deforestation" which is a major problem for many reasons. Yes, as long as there is a "need" for wood, there will be deforestation.

With all of those "yesses", what is your point? That "artificial wood" can help reduce deforestation? Or that deforestation has to continue in order to guarantee loggers jobs? There is not, and never has been, a requirement that jobs be "guaranteed" to a particular vocation. Would you advocate that people be required to smoke in order to guarantee tobacco farmer's jobs? In the last generation tobacco smoking has been reduced sharply and tobacco farmers have switched to other crops. Would you require people to ride in horse drawn buggies in order to guarantee jobs to people who make buggy whips? Oh, and the advent of "indoor plumbing" has completely destroyed the job market for "night soil collectors". Do you even know what that is?

Changes are constant in all economies and people's needs are constantly changing. There is always a need to retrain people whose previous jobs have disappeared.

I don't think you guys know how the LEGAL paper industry works.

If you don't use paper then paper companies sell that extra land to lets say cow farmers and they cut down the whole forest to farm cows which produce huge amounts of CO2.

Actually paper companies manage their forests really well as it is not economically advantageous or sustainable to cut the whole forest so just some selected trees are cut.

If paper would be much more popular we would have way more forests.

Makes me sick when hippies rage for reducing paper consumption to save the trees...Ok so replace paper packaging with plastic ones. Good job humanity.

Wasn't that hard, was it? This is the point I was making (highlighted). All other fantasy notions in your post have nothing to do with what I was saying.

But it is just one of the reasons for deforestation to happen. A very important one, but as Silvestru had correctly pointed out, not the most important. It is beneficial for loggers to keep sustainable operation, although it doesn't happen as often as I'd like to see.

Other causes for deforestation include things like the growing need for farm-able and grazing land. As long as there is a demand for these things, trees will need to be cut down. This can be managed at least in part by offering alternative and preferably cheaper materials to use in place of wood, increasing agricultural productivity and strict government control, but all these things are hard to accomplish in less developed parts of the world.

That's very well put, and I totally agree. The guys that are actually doing the cutting are just trying to survive any way they can. And you're absolutely right - the only real solution is an alternative that is "better" (functionally) and cheaper. You'll still have rich folk that then consider "real wood" to be a status symbol, but limiting it to them would reduce the problem so much that it likely wouldn't be a problem anymore.
