Serial Sockpuppetry

Strange

Recommended Posts

I am really curious why some posters are so desperate that they will create multiple accounts to keep posting, even if only suspended for a few days.

Do they really think that their idea is so important, it must be heard?

Do they just think that rules don't apply to them?

Unfortunately, the people who could answer those questions probably can't because they have been banned!

Should this be classified as mental illness?

Just because a person writes science fiction books
it does not follow that this person can not be
a real accomplished mainstream scientist, right? :)
Dr. Carl Sagan is a good example. :)

As the immediately preceding post is about to be deleted, all I can say is: see what I mean?

It is a shame that he is so obsessively stuck on one track, he couldn't even post something relevant to a post that was inspired by him as the latest crazy example. Ho hum.

OK, zbigniew, before you go, why is it you keep pushing these ideas that have no support, with links that only sound like they might? Why do you keep showing up when you're asked to leave? Why do you think your ignorance of science isn't as much of a detriment to your learning as being deaf or blind would be? There's a whole lot that you don't know you don't know about science. How can you be this arrogant and ignorant at the same time?

just keep deleting the evidence, and you will be fine :)

I was posting about how sorry I feel for folks like this when he barged in again with a sockpuppet. It's like watching the Black Knight in Holy Grail insist he can beat Arthur despite having no leg to stand on. He claims he has the math to support his idea when he clearly and concisely explained how he doesn't know math.

Well not you, you tit, you're a sockpuppet!

Even when given a chance, you still can't respond meaningfully. Talk, talk, talk, no evidence at all.

Words can not describe how sorry i feel for pseudo-scientists,

who keep deleting evidence, and then lie, and lie, and lie !! :)

But can you explain why you feel you need to keep creating new accounts to plug your idea?

Sorry, I had to boot him too. He started spamming other threads.

Now he gets to claim his stupid link would be the miracle that "proves" his idea is sound, but the horrible mainstream people keep deleting it (even though I left it here). I also don't think he understands that Dr Forward is a science fiction writer, and that his negative matter is purely hypothetical.

Sockpuppeteers are intellectually dishonest, lazy, and ignorant.

Don't apologise.

This is a bit like trying to find out what goes on inside a black hole:

"Can you tell me what you can see?"

"It's ..."

"Oh, he's gone."

Don't forget vanity.

There has to be a lot of that in order to come to a place like this challenging mainstream science, right? I'd still like to know what other highly technical fields people feel free to criticize without knowing very much about it. Maybe I should head over to the airport and tell the air traffic controllers about my new ideas for landing more planes. Most of those guys probably aren't pilots, right, so my lack of flight time shouldn't be a drawback (I'm not a pilot but I've flown). In fact, I'm not bogged down by all their protocols and experience, so I might even come up with something nobody has thought of.

Right off the top of my head, I think we should turn up the AC in the flight tower. Air traffic controllers should never sweat, because it makes pilots nervous, and it might get in the controllers eyes, or short out valuable electronics. See how easy that was? I can't believe all those "professional" controllers never came up with that. Really, it's sort of my duty as an air traffic controller to save all those people who would otherwise die without my insights and intuition. And if you don't agree and kick me out, I'll be forced to create as many accounts as necessary to save lives. A little awe would be appropriate right about now.

I think It's a twisted need to be noticed and respected through a similar mechanism to "theres no bad publicity" Pretty harmless in my opinion...Im more aftaid of the smart people who get crazy ideas.

All that aside, his post was an excellent tribute to Robert L Foreward, writer of Dragon's Egg, one of my favorite sci-fi novels.

I was trying to remember which of his novels I've read, and this was it. The cheela on the neutron star, right? This story was great prep for understanding the dimensions in Flatland.

I suspect that many times they simply don't realize this isn't some massive community with thousands of daily active members. Many likely think their sockpuppet will go unnoticed and simply get lost and go undetected in the noise.

Other times, it's just straight defiance. "Eff you, I won't do what you tell me! The "man" can't keep ME down! I've never been a rule follower!"...that sorta thing.

I wonder why it is that in a community with thousands of registered users only a handful are active. It might be a good idea for the mods to discuss this among themselves.

It has small active core user base with quite a lot of transient traffic. It's pretty steady from about 9am UK through to about 1am. Most registered users probably asked a question or two or had 'theory' to present and moved on.

I would guess that many, if not most of these accounts are people who register to ask a question and then disappear soon thereafter. In fact, that's exactly what I did but I came back for more questions and eventually decided to stay.

Are you suggesting it's our fault, or that we take on marketing responsibilities as well? Resources are slim. AFAIK we have minimal income from banner ads that pays upkeep only.
