I had a bad day which concluded with Jehova's ringing my house. For the first time in my life I let them in and had a chat with 2 guys in their 40's. It ended up badly for them.

We moved last weekend ... Terrible how socially and professionally paralyzed and isolated we become in a few days without WiFi.

A masters student wants to work on a project with me - something to do with Riemannian supergeometry is going to be the topic - first masters student I will look after.

I have to take back the mean things I said about linear algebra. Turns out it is very useful in both quantum physics and machine learning.

It's hard this healthy eating lark. Everything I eat is killing me. Saturated fat is everywhere.

No. Its just that, having got rid of Hep C, I'm using the very positive emotional momentum gained from that to rid myself of two unhealthy aspects of my life; sugar and smoking. The experience from the treatment, which was pretty horrible, makes giving up those two things less of a challenge; that's my theory! Unfortunately, the treatment has left me with high cholesterol, hence my drive against the wrong fats and other contributory factors.

Thank you for sharing that with me mate. And good luck to you, of course. I am pretty much in the same cholesterol boat. However, I don't study my diet with too much scrutiny. Surely exercise and lots of it provide a way out. Eat well and vary it. Take everything you enjoy in small doses. I don't always follow my own advice but I am eating more salad as you suggested.

I think you and I need to tread the same diet path. Eating crap then running it off is a bit like lacing a bullet with penicillin, don't you think?

Why is healthy living considered low on quality? Being fit means you can enjoy your body in more ways.

My dog, Doria, passed away in her sleep last night. Not quite sure how old she was as we adopted her from a shelter who estimated she was about 2 years when they found her, but based on that she lived to about 13-14. I miss you my mangy mutt :(

Thanks for support guys, it means a lot. It's been and is probably going to be hardest on my dad, she was really his baby. He was always talking with her, sometimes in silly gibberish or Italian phrases, while sitting in dining room or working outside.

So B.P Abbot et al of the Ligo Collaboration detected a signal 'sweeping' from 35Hz to 250Hz. More likely 36Hz to 216Hz, maybe the next interferometer built shall be able to pick up all the low frequencies from 3Hz to 729Hz.

LIGO can measure frequencies from 10Hz to about 2000 Hz. But the frequencies measured depend on the masses of the BHs involved.

And everything I have read says 250Hz, not 216 - so where did that come from?
