I overheard a particularly incompetant colleague of mine tell another student that you 'learn through mistakes,' just now. Whille I believe the statement to be true, if all you ever do is make mistakes (as he does), then have you really learned anything?

Observational Learning - It is better to learn from another's mistakes, but we cannot always since we are all unique.

I personally cannot fathom how attempting to placate a student by telling him that mistakes can be useful in any way alludes to incompetence. Rather, I should think that particular adjective would better fit an instructor who mercilessly denigrated a student for his errors. I smell another reason for you calling this guy incompetent.

Well, yes. That much should have been fairly obvious given the fact that a.) I didn't say this comment in particular is what made him incompetent and, b.) my subsequent analogies.

My wife is a high school nurse. She tells me that kids..Usually girls..Are having full blown panic and anxiety attacks when they forget to bring their phones to school. Hmm..Me thinks I might smell a possible Psych thesis subject.

@imatfaal...it's dubious and delete worthy that my wife had personally observed the fact that it's mostly girls who she sees for these panic attacks? It's a simple statistic. She said almost always girls, in fact. You guys and your knee jerk pc are just plain silly. If not moronic.

No, I said in reply to Nimrod that "the gay ones do" to his question about if boys did it. He deleted said comment, and I can understand that.

Yes Nimrod. If my 13 year old nephew is anything to go by, it is not completely gender-specific. Mind you, I stress out if my internet is down.

Has nothing to do with undergrad. I'm an undergrad until next year when I'll start my Master. And I surely do sense some difference in comprehension of orders of magnitude between myself and the honourable young lady.

The point of war is not to die for your country. It's to make the noob on the other side die for his.

War is Hell. It is now fought for the control of dwindling natural resources and not for dynastic reasons IMO. It is also waged by the rich who seldom take part in the conflict.

I think he's right (at least I hope he is) - look at average life span now and 300 years ago. Religion will/should become obsolete in the next few generations, the alternative is mayhem which we all know so well from history.

You should have asked, "What is religion?" Religion is hard to define to begin with, and probably harder to define for a broader span of time.

Thank you Imatfaal. I'm glad to be back. It won't be long (a few weeks at most) until I create a new thread regarding my work on the Collatz conjecture. Unfortunately, the work I've done on extending the Collatz conjecture has provided insights that invalidates my original proof, but I am very close. All will be revealed soon. :D
