  1. Does anyone know if CCleaner is still a safe option? I am having some problems with my PC yet again, for some reason McAfee viral program has stopped being available, it's symbol on my desktop has vanished. It still pops up sometimes when i down load telling me it checked my download but I can't access the program to initiate a scan. I am paying for it, but for some reason it has stopped working... any ideas guys?

Spare (dispensable! i.e. with non-important data) SSD 120 GB with a fresh installed (i.e. "just now", from scratch! just before use!), is always a good idea. If you were infected ("the main system") by novel virus, no antivirus will find it, and you don't know what kind of backdoors were installed on it (if it was truly virus/hacker attack).. Viruses/hacker attacks disable antivirus and firewalls. They can do that because they gained admin/root privileges.

It is better to not too accustomize with an operating systems..

I am swapping Linux 4 times per year, and in between there are special "erase all to permanent zero", one per month or so..

Learn how to backup entire browser (cookies etc.) from file system.

It should be in hidden folders:

      %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local

      and

      %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Roaming/

      (both are important!)

Copy them from Linux Live pendrive to another device e.g. pendrive.

This way you can even use web browser data (logged sessions) from Windows on Linux machine, and vice versa, if you did everything properly.

Copy them in an appropriate places on a new fresh system..

You need to create Linux Live pendrive first, somewhere (obviously not on compromised machine!)

      https://www.kali.org/docs/usb/live-usb-install-with-windows/

(Linux can read Windows NTFS files and folders, even without admin privileges, attempt of reading Windows NTFS folders on Windows, which are only accessible by admin, will fail)

Most people are never ready for "Winter is coming".. You don't know when winter is coming.. Unlike true winter which is pretty regularly (so people started making food for it)..

Damage of disk, this way or another, will happen sooner or later..

So I took my curriculum and taught it here on SFN. I thought, “if I could inspire adults to factor SemiPrimes I would create the ultimate cryptographers.”

So with over 11,000 views, what did you think of the class?

We are 4-5 days into it, the test results came in today. She's got a moderate fever (38,5C) and lost her taste and smell, I only lost my strength and I'm sleeping 2 hours during the day 3rd day in a row. We are both caughing a little, our 4.5 year old kid seems completely fine. Christmas is going to be really awesome this year, what a f joke 2020 is. I'm pissed as hell, the vaccine is just a couple weeks away and we didn't make it.

In the appropriate thread about COVID-2019 I tried to explain how heavy smokers can easily get infection. You buy something in the shop, buy cigarettes, touch the money, touch the doorknobs etc. etc. and then immediately after shopping outdoor, taking the cigarettes out of the box.. using your hands which just touched the money full of the microbes and viruses of the people who touched it a few minutes earlier, and the shopkeepers.. and putting the cigarettes straight into the mouth. It must ended up with infection, sooner or earlier, regardless of precautions.

  9. Can anyone identify if these factors are close?

i realize that the numbers are huge. I am facing the same problems as you trying to see if this works.

The goal is not to destroy RSA and those ciphers that rely on factoring. That would cripple SSL certificates. We probably don’t have any encryption the NSA can’t break.

Instead finding patterns in factorization finds new patterns and series.

I would like to find patterns in biological organisms, but I no little of genetics or cell biology.

There are mathematicians and physicists looking for patterns in diseases. I am neither of theses, but finding pattern is the most basic math. If if you don’t understand the theories or notation you can still visualize the series. I am not saying it is easy to add to the field, put anyone can understand patterns.

That is how I feel. Let’s find patterns in factoring.

You should not send something confidential through HTTPS/SSL. Properly (professionally) made websites hash passwords on client-side in JavaScript HTML Form validation code.. So even if SSL is compromised (e.g. SSL Strip) password is still encoded.

Somebody bothering about security should archive the all data using 7zip with password. It is using AES 256. But it is not allowing to enter IV by user..

      Quote

We probably don’t have any encryption the NSA can’t break.

AES has been approved by NSA for encryption of non-classified data, later extended also to classified data. With enough power e.g. supercomputer cluster or botnet with gpu acceleration, or better custom made hardware cluster for 10 bln usd, if there is known IV (init vector), or simply leaved zero by incompetent programmer, not knowing what he or she is doing, or using wrong mode, it is possible to find out password (especially 128 bits long) in some reasonable amount of time. Therefor to decrease of chance of brute-force attack on transmissed data the key is to frequently change IV (randomize?) and transmit it together inside of already encoded packets (or alternative route). If somebody (gov) will intercept transmission in the middle, won't be able so easily use plain brute-force algorithm if IV can be anything having 128, 192 or 256 bits and changing. Ordinary hackers don't have ATM patience nor resources to brute-force pass through the all possible passwords even if they know IV.

Example of what can happen if raw picture is encoded using silly insecure mode is on this website on the right.

When I wanted to do massive printing I bought the cheapest from the cheapest inkjet printer (Canon Pixma MG2555) for 30 usd (in Christmas holidays promotion). Brand new replacement cartridge for it costed more than half of printer price, IIRC around 20 usd (with built-in heads). I printed the first bunch of pages with original ink, lasted just for couple hundred pages. Then bought refilling kit with syringe for around 5 usd. And managed to print more than 10,000 pages with it (> 5k double sides). I counted that if I would be buying original cartridges or non-original cartridges I would spend more than 1000 usd on ink. I paid total 35 usd for printer and ink. Price of paper and transparent foils for each page costed 175 usd. The most annoying thing was need to swap page to fill 2nd side. It took couple weeks (entire day work) to print the all stuff.

LED strips typically have built-in resistors on the tape. But they require correct polarization.

It's wiser to use too high value resistor, at the beginning, and have too little current, then decrease its value.

If you will heat, pass current (spark in experiment, in the real world thunderbolt, lightning), cool down, then repeat, mixture of gases such as CH4, CO2, H2O, NH3, HCN, H2, N2, O2.. after a while there will be created the all kinds of organic molecules, amino acids, proteins, DNA. e.g. you can make C5H5N5 (adenine) from 5 HCN.
