  1. I am amazed by your curiosity! As for the electrolysis of NaCl solution, you can't go much wrong, given that you know what you are doing. I would say that for every experiment you may do by varying the electrodes, you should research about the reaction from sources online that you would find easily. As for the electrolysis of the NaCl solution with graphite electrodes, you get Cl2 gas at anode (+), H2 gas at cathode (-) and NaOH in the solution. As the reaction proceeds and if both electrodes are not far enough, the Cl2 gas reacts with the NaOH in the solution to form Sodium hypochlorite or bleach. Only risk in here is the chlorine gas that you should not inhale too much. So don't smell it for too long. Also, the reaction with copper electrodes is also safe.   3. I need suggestions over differentiating between a solution of sodium hypochlorite (let's say the household bleach) and sodium chlorate solution. Is there a qualitative way to test and differentiate the two, considering that if I make chlorate from hypochlorite, I want to confirm the reaction..? Thanks in advance!

    That's a weird idea! How would those oxygen synthesizing bacteria/ phytoplanktons survive if all the trees disappear? There is something called interdependency in biosphere, that makes healthy ecological communities. Also there are other climatic influences of trees that is part of our survival
  6. You want a satisfactory theory of life? Why not analyze life through the perspective of biology, then chemistry and then physics. We will ultimately reach the level of energy, the quantum world! I know the hard part lies in explaining why all this orchestrates to form living matter, but if you build up from scratch you will realize that all the cells, organization in body, processes, senses, emotions, intellect is just the energy in the atoms expressing its information in different creative ways.

  8. Look into the bonds of the chemicals involved. The extra energy is from the unstable bond oh h nd cl which keeps the two bonded but immediately gets released as heat energy from bond dissociation.

  10. Green Grapes that are ripe and soft seem to taste more sour( tarter), while the stiff ones are much sweeter. How is it unlike other fruits grapes become tarter with ripening? Or is it to do just with enhanced tartaric acid and not actually the sourness?

  13. Theoritically we have read that ketones do not get directly oxidized by potassium permanganate aqueous solution. However, when I tried doing so with acetone, the pink color did diffuse to red, then orange and then yellow;but very gradually. This means acetone was oxidized by kmno4! How should I account for this?
