I don't think aliens have visited us for a few reasons:
First off, aliens with advanced technology do not live in our solar system because we would easily pick up their EM waves from any communication technology they use, or we would physically see the light and structures from their cities when astronomers view moons and planets in our solar system. So barring underground, reclusive, and technologically 'silent' aliens... there are NONE in our system, at least the kinds that could visit us secretly.
Secondly, Aliens that live outside our solar system would need very advanced technology to travel to Earth in any practical time period. Even at light speed, the nearest star is over 4 years of travel time away. Most Physicists have proposed that such travel would require either infinite energy and resources to create artificial 'shortcuts' (similar to what was seen in "Contact"), or a pre-existing Wormhole could allow it, but that is only conjecture because they are only theorized and none have ever been observed. So, in other words, travelling here from another solar system is practically improbable... but not entirely impossible.
And lastly, if they COULD visit us, it would be extremely difficult to keep themselves secret. To transport a being to our planet would require a ship landing, or a transporter (like Star Trek), but even Stephen Hawkin has admitted that it would be impossible to transmit every atom of a complex living being for any practical use. If they landed a ship on Earth, or orbitted Earth, an observer with a telescope could easily see them. And a cloaking device is not out of the question, but in that case... you must first consider the other two reasons.
If there are aliens out there... they are probably like us; evolved in a Darwinian style. So they probably have the same instinct that we do.. survival. But if they have technology, they definately have creativity, and curiosity... so then I think if they were capable of contacting us.... they would absolutely try to contact us. You don't need to look further than Earth to see aliens. Any other being out there is looking at the stars and saying, "I wonder if there's anyone else out there." And I guarantee that they would contact us in a heartbeat, just as we would.
fafalone
January 30th, 2003, 9:33 PM
I completely agree.
But as to the technology...
Say the kind of technology needed for travelling several Mpc was a billion years away from what we have. Well, the universe is at least 15 billion years old, and life on our planet has only existed 6 billion years... so it's perfectly reasonable to consider that there's probably a planet with life that got started a billion years before us.
Mastermold
January 30th, 2003, 9:37 PM
That's very true. Most of what will be invented in only hundreds of years cannot be imagined... a few million? Beyond belief or conception. I definately agree on the technology bit.

Not sure what to make of the whole UFO scene. Maybe the government is testing something, or maybe their are actual UFOs of some sort "visiting" us. Of course, there isn't really any scientific evidence to back up UFOs, but there are eyewitness reports, military reports [from other countries], etc.
Half of my class saw one when we were on our senior trip at Breckenridge. It was quite interesting, no one [the other half of the class who weren't with them when they saw it] believed them till the local news reported the sightings later that night.
Its all very interesting to me, but I dunno.

Yea, It's funny how America was singled out by these aliens as the most intellegent race on earth. The alien's decided to do business with us, but not the rest of the world. Secret government treaties with aleins. Wouldn't even make a good movie. Although, I wouldn't be suprised to see one. Why is hollywood such carp.

I am upset at the fact that Aliens stopped making yaties after 2001. I know they were savage drones and lacked alot of intelligence but lets be honest they were smarter than the barry drone and alot more athletic.
They are coming out with new drones for 2003 but I havent heard the latest yet.

America stands from freedom, equal rights and peace. Countries shouldn't complain. I also think the American people should show some pride because we all ripe on Bush; in turn, the world community sees that and does it aswell.

My friends mom was cheating with a Moshe. The Moshe happen to have his own yatie. The Yatie got his own room with no furniture just newspape all over the floor so that he wouldnt urinate on it. their were scratchmarks all over the wall from the Yatie though. they are tough to get out I must admit.

But you must teach the Yeties not to paint the walls using poop, because it's a instinct of theirs.
They feel comfort in poop covered walls. Makes them feel like they are in mama dake's womb.

The Gov found out about this after 2000 and killed off all the Mama-dukes therefore the yaties arent being produced. So their are only a few left out there. Some are in new mexico and the some in florida and the rest in Israel.
some say the chuppa cabra was just another yatie. But its said the men in black caught up to tha one.

But the Barry well thats pretty much extinct. their is only one in captivity in a place called Evert, were they make it think it has a job. They are very violent , stuped and pretty much resemble the caveman.

If you two had stayed on topic this thread might have held my interest.
And if there are aliens investigating the USA it's because you are the most dangerous country on the planet. It doesn't take a lot of working out.

Sayonara^3.
When I said America was single out, it was more of a joke. But When you say America would be singled out because of our threat to the world. that makes no sence.
As I understand it; Aliens made a dela with the United States back in WW2. This would make Germany the biggest threat to the world. Germany had more aggresive palns (take over the world), plus smarter scientists CREATING a atom bomb.
Alein did crash here (lets just pretend), so that would be a good reason to side with the U.S. So the rest of the world wouldn't know about their presence.
Also, imagen such a intellegent race singleing out a group of people. That would be like us singleing out the smarted group of monkeys in a area of the rain forest. Aliens do not speak using their mouths and they esspecially not english. So using telepathly, they would just get millions of thoughs running though our brains and would not be a able to set up any communication with us. It would be difficult to signle our nation out as the "smartest" or "most dangerous", but maybe as the peace keeper of our world. That would make more sence. Our nation was isolated throught both World Wars and most wars which happened in history.

If aliens were here, I strongly doubt they'd let the government keep their presence classified and not have it leak out.
as to their existence, there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever other species exist on other planets... but also not all aliens are superadvanced with intergalactic travel ability.
think about the odds... the odds of a planet supporting life are extremely small; but billions of stars are in a galaxy. there's billions of galaxies, and just with those rough estimates, the chances have got to be alot better than 1 in a quintillion (10^18) of a star having a planet with earthlike conditions, and if there's earthlike conditions there's a very good chance of life developing.

if aliens did exist, and they visited us, they would have to be more inteligent than us to be able to have the technology to do so where as we havent even set foot on mars yet. my guess is if aliends do exist and are among us, they wouldnt get drunk and clumsily crash their spash ship into earth on a joyride. they will be observing us from afar as if we are an intresting science experiment.

Its still amazing to me to think Aliens came down do to the tough possibilities of actually flying from that far away. This is why I also believe at tmes that what we see in the sky ae actually ships flown by the Government. And another possibility could be if Aliens exist they dont have a physical body like us but more like energy that can fly around and have a conciounce. Im not saying that Aliens have to be superior to us just be able to travel better do to their energy bodies.
Mastermold
February 2nd, 2003, 11:56 AM
But I think before you immediately accept the idea that a physical form can become energy, you must consider the impossiblities. First, energy is always static... it must be supplied, or if it loses its 'power source' for just a second, all consciousness would be lost forever. This is analogous to RAM memory in a computer... the RAM is just stored energy and it makes memory, but when the computer is turned off, that memory is lost forever. The hard drive is a physical form capable of storing information, or organization. And that is the key word, Organization. An energy form does not easily organize, and so can not have repeatable pathways say for artificial neurons (an artificial brain) or even pathways to link all parts of the energy (nerves, circulatory, or any communication to all parts of the energy being). If we say that it does not need these things, then how could the being manifest itself back into physical form? Its organization would be lost forever.
fafalone
February 2nd, 2003, 1:03 PM
That's a nice summary of what a primitive people understand about energy. Obviously we haven't got a clue. You have to consider the time frame we're thinking of aliens in. Anyone who has the audacity to claim our understanding of energy will hold true for millions of years really needs a crash course in history, and what we thought was absolutely impossible merely decades ago.
Also, you're forgetting something about energy... it did organize itself into the matter of the universe.

Not that I tried to claim an understanding of energy... but to show that the essential element of how we would define a living being of energy would not be typical definitions. The typical respiration, reproduction, reactivity, etc. would not apply.. and we would define it as something that has a consciousness... memory, reasoning, etc... all the elements of the human consciousness, and anything else would not be recognized. I mean do we recognize a light bulb as life? No, but why not? Because it lacks the consciousness we recognize. Our understanding of consciosness may be primitive, but I think if it is all we have, we must work with it. And a being of energy is more like a useless Sci-fi fantasy or pipe dream than an actual scientific goal.
Also Fafalone mentioned the way that energy made the universe... but it is still not known how energy can make matter, only the vice versa. We can convert matter into energy, we have not (to my knowledge) achieved the opposite.

Well, I just got back from watching some TV. I was watching some UFO show on Science Discovery and a funny though came to mind.
Some guy was talking about how in mid-evil times they had "white ghosts" at the bedside. In other times they were "demons" and other mythical creatures. SPOOKY.
Whats funny is that this guy disproved Aleins right there and he didn't mean too. If these Aleins are, what he tried to say, been here all along. Then they are just modern day stories which came with our expanding knowledge of space travel.
Who KNOWS? In 90 years poeple won't even give Aliens (in the UFO sence) a second thought, just laugh. Maybe, by then will be in fear of viruses being living things. Ones that came back from Mars!!!

there are those civilizations that drew those giant forms in the earth, that you can see with like a plane overhead, but they could have just been doing that to show whatever god they thought was in the sky. they did have something that looked like a landing strip, but I don't think anything that could fly through the galaxy would need to land like an airplane.
However I do think that if something smarter than us did come to earth, they would be interested in our civilization and probably want to keep coming back.
