In their most recent act of compassion, liberal lefties have decided to add Republicans and neoconservative values to the endangered species list.

  2. Politics FAQ & Useful Links This post is intended to be a reference for three kinds of information: 1) How to go about posting on the politics board (rules and guidelines) (coming soon). 2) Helpful links to reference sites that are useful for discussion here. 3) Links to previous discussions on hot topics so you can refer back to how we talking about an issue before. To that end I could use everyone's help, especially with the second and third points, which you can start adding to right now by replying to this thread. Few actions can convey just how well a war is going as firing three of your top military leaders just four weeks into hostilities - yet this is exactly what has happened at the Pentagon earlier this week. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/3/hegseth-fires-us-army-chief-of-staff-in-reported-string-of-dismissals On Thursday April 2nd Pete Hegseth the so-say ‘Secretary of War’ stunned the military establishment by announcing the immediate ‘retirement’ of General Randy A. George the Army Chief of Staff since 2023, in tandem with General David Hodne, the head of the Army’s Transformation and Training Command, and Major-General William Green jnr - the Army’s Chief of Chaplai…

Quite a bit as it turns out, in the wake of President Trump’s arrival on his current chaotic visit to China - (China’s President Xi Jinping didn’t even bother to come out to the airport to greet him). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfRYrXzMpHU President Trump has already garnered quite a number of unflattering nicknames on Chinese social media which include: 懂 王 dǒng wáng - “King Know-it-all” 万 税 爷 wàn shuì yé - “Lord of Ten Thousand Taxes” (a pun on 万 岁 wàn Suì - “Ten Thousand Years!”) 川 宝 chuan bao - “Baby Trump” But the latest nickname for Trump to go viral on Chinese social media is a back-handed compliment: 川 建 国 chuan jiàn guó - “Trump The Nation Builder” A…

  6. I have thought much on the question of why, often after revolutions, a new power becomes even worse than previous one. For example, in Russia after 1917 old authoritarian power was replaced by totalitarian one. Here is the answer: each authoritarian power suppresses the opposition, which pose a threat ideologically, more intensively, than rabid/extreme opposition, despite the second one often poses even bigger threat to the representatives of current power. The first opposition is a seculiar democratic opposition, while the second opposition is something with communist/fascist/fundamental etc ideology. This is very clearly seen on the examples of such countries like Syria…

This visit from the King seems to show a greater sense of deference, in the upper echelons of American politics, than it is here in blighty; or is that a bit of BBC bias? I wonder how deep in the American societal psyche it goes?

In the US, at least, freedom has been dangled in front of its citizens as the pinnacle of the human condition, something we should all value highly and strive to find and protect. But the freedom to do whatever you want is ALWAYS balanced against the people around you, so that the smaller the group the more freedom it actually has. Larger groups have to compromise to accommodate everyone. Gathering into a society means less freedoms but far more opportunity. The structure of a society and the ways it curtails certain freedoms create even more opportunities for prosperity. Follow the rules on walking together in public and we'll build sidewalks. Agree not to pee on the s…

  12. “I think it means bringing the end of the world closer, sort of.” (Illuminatus! - Vol 1 - Robert Shea & Robert Anton Wilson) According to a report in ‘The Guardian’, US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/mar/03/us-israel-iran-war-christian-rhetoric The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has received more than 200 complaints from personnel across the US armed forces including members of the Marines, Air Force and Space Force. According to one complaint from an NC…

Notwithstanding this, should the principle be mandatory for legitimate national government, and should there be any exceptions at all?

  15. Now that I'm of pensionable age, I've had time to look at the actions of my generation and their predecessors in public office; their actions as corporate stakeholders; their typical voting tendencies; and come to the inescapable conclusion that their attentions for the limited remainder of their time here would be better focused elsewhere. Gardening or reading shallow, rose-tinted recollections of the good old days. Let's face it, their performance in these areas has been woeful and one cannot help but come to the conclusion that their declining mental faculties and limited personal investment in anything but the immediate future may be the root cause. So if I felt suffi…

On Sunday March 1st at UTC 18.11, shortwave radio-hams in France and Italy noticed that a new ‘Numbers’ station had begun broadcasting in Farsi on 7910 KHz. The broadcasts began the day after the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran by US and Israeli forces on Saturday 28th February. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErmbTpxAM7Q Numbers stations are enigmatic radio broadcasts that consist of nothing but a human voice reciting cryptic groups of numbers. They are widely believed to be communication channels used by intelligence agencies to transmit instructions to field-agents in foreign countries. The numbers are copied down by agents equip…

  19. Prefacing this question with the statement that I in no way support or am sympathetic with Epstein, Maxwell or any of their "clients" but at what age is it appropriate for a female (or male) to engage in sexual activity? It seems to me to be a completely indeterminable thing other than in law but it was my experience (even in the days before the internet) that sex was a major topic of discussion among boys from at least early teens. Is it even possible to have an objective measure to determine psychological "sexual maturity" in one's life?

  20. In a landmark action, the Trump administration has decisively erased the challenge of climate change by using the presidential powers of "nuh-uh". I wished I was making it up but one of the argument is that CO2 is actually good, plants use it. There is also the issue is that depending on landscape and crop other factors are more limiting than CO2, but that is entirely beside the point. It is pretty much the same argument against global warming by pointing out that winters exist. After all, my fridge is cold, so what is everyone so afraid about? So please excuse me, while I go huff some asbestos in preparation for a refreshing sewage bath. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02…

  21. As far as I can see, the Western democracy is mostly an illusion; the Western countries are ruled by the financial aristocracy. This works as follows: if a problem arises in society, the financial elite, represented by parliamentarians, passes laws to solve it; but these laws simultaneously serve one more purpose—increasing the wealth and power of the elite. In particular, these laws are always aimed at suppressing the small businesses, because small businessmen are less dependent on the power and can overthrow it. Currently I have two examples, but I apologize for not fact-checking everything thoroughly; I hope somebody here can help me with this: 1) I have seen an inter…

  22. Even though I live nearly half a world away from the insanity that is the Trump administration, I have been taking a very keen interest in what is happening in the US. It seems clear to me that Trump is now shoehorning everything into "foreign relations" because that is where he claims to have presidential power beyond the reach of anyone, including the Supreme Court. It seems inevitable that he will claim "foreign interference" as a pretext to taking control of the midterm elections. And this may even become true if he enlists some of his mates at the "Board of Peace" to create "foreign interference". What do you think? And what can be done about it?

BBC NewsThe huge sums energy firms get to not provide powerCould the government's radical plan to change the way the UK distributes electricity really bring down bills - or just lead to a postcode lottery? 24. all i can see, there is acceptance of community. I mean that this was too much effective which is also the wrong thing to me. what I want to underline is that since there are "truths" and even though we scientists are successfull to find / find out those "truths" , they will exist and be effective. The difference will just be that we will not be able to use those truths. I mean that even though we get agreements on something the truths exist in every process regerdless our convention. So, I wonder (and also should express my surprise that ) the reason why when some effective/known people says something, others follow without questioning.

Over £1300 a month for electricity and rising ?
